How to Root Motorola Droid Razr XT910 and Install CyanogenMod 13

UPDATE: After a week playing with my phone, now I strongly recommend you to install CM11 M12, because CM13 is too heavy for Motorola Droid Razr XT910/XT912.

Motorola Droid Razr XT910It was the end of 2011 when I got my Motorola Droid Razr. It’s a brilliant phone – ultra light 127g, ultra thin 7.1mm, slick and modern design, a kevlar back.

Five years later, I decided to give it a new life with CyanogenMod 13 (Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow). The result is very pleasant, the phone is stable, a little bit slow, but fast enough 🙂

How to install CM13 on XT910

Root the phone. Go to Settings → Developer options and enable USB Debugging. To be able to put a custom operating system ROM, you have to gain a root access to the phone. Use the brilliant program called iRoot. If you are unable to connect your phone to the PC via USB, then use Motorola USB driver.

It took me a few days to found the iRoot solution, because all other root methods were not working with my phone. That’s why I’m writing this manual now.

Install custom recovery. Continue by following the instructions on the CyanogenMod site starting from Installing SafeStrap Recovery.

Install CyanogenMod. Continue with the next header of the official manual Installing CyanogenMod from recovery.
